Anastasia K. Phillips

May 24, 1933 ~ September 5, 2020 (age 87)

Obituary

Anastasia Karamanoglou Phillips, 87, passed away at her home on September 5, 2020. She had been battling dementia for over 12 years. Anastasia was born on May 24, 1933 in Old Phaleron, Athens, Attica, Greece to parents Alexander and Vassiliki Karamanoglou. She was one of 5 children. Anastasia was a wonderful wife and mother to 5 daughters. She had the best green thumb and had the most beautiful garden. Her yard was admired by all of their friends and neighbors. She loved sewing, cooking, singing and jewelry!  But most of all she loved her family.

Anastasia and Robert (Bob) were married for almost 61 years. Our father who was an Air Force veteran met our mother in Athens while he was on a three day leave in May 1955. As our father tells it, “It was a nice spring day and in the evening a friend of mine and I were taking a walk along the bay admiring all the young ladies, when we met three girls coming from the opposite direction. We immediately did an about face following them to an ice cream stand and to this day I consider that the luckiest day of my life. It took a lot of earnest talking to get Sasa’s name and address. We were married on December 26, 1955. I wish my mom and dad could have met Sasa’s family. They were and are the best!’

Our mother had 6 children, Annie, baby Alexander, Patricia (Betsy), Belinda, Robin and Barbara. She also was a proud yaiyai of 9 grandchildren (Adam, Alex, Philip, Joey, Danielle, Samantha, Joshua, Sarah, Julia) and 5 great-grandchildren (Caden, Eli, Ella, Isabella and Noah). She devoted her life to her family.

Although she was a housewife and full-time mother, she also worked at times during her marriage. Her favorite job was the Lead cashier at K-mart. She retired after 10 years to take care of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, parents, Alexander and Vassiliki, brother Stelios and newborn son Alexander. She is survived by her loving sisters Pepi and Lela, brother Vasily and devoted daughters Annie (husband Kevin, son Adam wife Ashley, children Caden, Eli and Ella, son Philip), Betsy (children Joey and Danielle husband Robbie), Belinda (husband Richard granddaughter Isabella), Robin (husband Mark, children Alex and Samantha child Noah) and Barbie (husband Mike, children Joshua, Sarah and Julia).  Also numerous nieces and nephews.

We will miss you forever mom. Your love will continue to grow and shine throughout.  You taught us to be strong, independent, loving women. We are so proud to be your daughters.  We will take care of each other mom so rest in peace and enjoy being with daddy again and your loved ones in Heaven.
