Erin Hoaglen

April 18, 1975 — November 18, 2020

Orlando

Born on April 18,1975, Erin Rose Hoaglen passed away peacefully with family at her side on November 18, 2020. An Orlando native, she is survived by her mother, Vicki Gholson, brothers Perrin Hoaglen, Peter and Alex Martinez, nephews Nathaniel and Alexander Jr., niece Evelyn Rose, grandparents Gerry & Marge Gholson, Uncle Jerry Gholson, Aunt Kathy Hanson, cousin Carl, and partner Sean Reynolds.   Erin was extremely close with and devoted to her family, and she loved her Lhasa-poo, which she named Buttercup.

Erin had a zest for life and many friends from childhood, college, and professionally.  A life-long Seminoles fan, Erin graduated from Florida State University, as well as Bishop Moore High School and St. James Cathedral School.  A Disney Dreamers & Doers Award recipient in 5th grade, Erin was one of the first students recognized with this award for academic achievement.  She volunteered at St. James and generously helped friends and family without hesitation.

A natural nurturer, Erin took care of everyone around her. She brought dinners to her grandparents and friends who were sick, and she often drove her Granny to the beauty parlor, manicurist, or anywhere else her grandmother desired.  She has been described as a second mom and sister by friends and often watched her friends’ children because she loved spending time with them.  Erin was a gifted cook who hosted festive holiday get-togethers for family and elaborate celebrations for friends.  Her parties were beautifully decorated and included delicious buffet spreads.  She and her mother often cooked together and even hosted tea parties for family.  She was always thoughtful and baked treats that her nephews would enjoy.

Erin had a great sense of humor and laughed a lot.  Her laughter was contagious.  Outgoing and social, Erin was active in her Orlando community. She enjoyed traveling to visit friends from college and riding her bike with her partner, Sean.  They even rode bikes in Alaska on a family vacation.  Erin was an avid reader and Harry Potter fan; although her favorite genre was fantasy, she cherished the novel “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” which she read at least once a year.  She fancied a variety of music and frequented concerts, plays, and ballets with friends.  Erin treasured outings with her Granny, especially to the Cocoa Village Playhouse in Brevard.  Her favorite singer was Stevie Nicks, though it’s been debated whether Erin saw her in concert as a child.

Erin will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A funeral service will be held at Carey-Hand Colonial Funeral Home on November 30, 2020; the viewing is at 5 o’clock and the funeral service is at 6 o’clock. Please make a donation in Erin’s name to the American Liver Foundation in lieu of flowers.
